OnePlus 8 Launch Event on April 14: Everything You Need to Know

OnePlus, the Chinese Flagship Smartphone Giant is ready to launch its upcoming OnePlus 8 Flagship series on April 14th, in between the world fighting the Noble Coronavirus, a.k.a. COVID-19. We already know some key specs of the upcoming flagships such as Snapdragon 865 Soc, an AMOLED Display with a refresh-rate of 120Hz, all thanks to leakster Roland Quandt at WinFuture.de and Ishan Agarwal on Twitter.

So, here’s everything you’ll need to know before you watch the event to be hosted by OnePlus.

OnePlus 8 Pro

The OnePlus 8 Pro is said to have the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 chipset along with the onboard 5G support for dual-sims, thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 modem. The rumors suggest the company will launch two variants of OnePlus 8 Pro —  8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB.

OnePlus 8 Pro UltraMarine

Image Source: WinFuture.deOnePlus 8 Pro got an upgrade over OnePlus 7T Pro as it sports a large 6.78-inch 2K+ AMOLED Display, with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Leaks suggest that it got a 240Hz sampling rate, HDR-10 support along with peak brightness of 1300 nits, and a faster in-display fingerprint scanner for improved security.

 

It’s officially confirmed that the device also got a dedicated MEMC chip which enables the device to upscale 24FPS content to 120FPS to offer its users a great immersive experience.

OnePlus 8 Pro is rumored to have a quad-camera setup on the back with two 48MP sensors. It will use —

  • Sony IMX689 48MP (f/1.78) as a primary sensor
  • Sony IMX586 48MP (f/2.2) ultrawide sensor
  • An 8MP telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom
  • A 5MP depth sensor.

When it comes to selfie, OnePlus ditched the Pop-up Mechanism from the device. A 16MP sensor will be expected on the corner of an AMOLED Display.

OnePlus 8 Pro is said to have an IP68 Rating, which means device will be water and dust resistant. The device will probably the company’s first smartphone to have an official IP rating. 

OnePlus Phone Charging

The device will be powered by a massive 4,510 mAh battery with Warp Charge 30 support. It will also support a 30W Fast Wireless charging along with 5W reverse wireless charging support.

It is little disappointing the OnePlus has not upgraded its charging support. It was rumored recently, OnePlus is about to launch its own SuperVOOC alternative with the upcoming OnePlus 8 series.

OnePlus 8 Pro will also be available in three colors – Glacier Green, Onyx Black, and Ultramarine Blue.

OnePlus 8

The OnePlus 8 is said to have the same Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 chipset along with the onboard 5G support as the OnePlus 8 Pro. The rumors suggest the company will launch three variants of OnePlus 8 —  6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB.

The design of OnePlus 8 is same as its predecessor OnePlus 7 Pro. It sports a large 6.67-inch QHD+ AMOLED Display, with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The panel will have HDR-10 support for better color accuracy, a faster in-display fingerprint scanner for improved security.

In the camera department, OnePlus 8 will get a new vertical setup like the Pro variants instead of a circular camera bump as in its predecessor, OnePlus 7. The device with rock a triple camera array on the back which includes —

  • A 48MP Primary Sensor
  • A 16MP Ultrawide Sensor 
  • A 2MP Macro Depth Sensor

It will feature the same selfie camera as the OnePlus 8 Pro.

The device will house a 4,300 mAh battery with Warp Charge 30 support along with Warp Charge 30T adapter included in the box. Leaks suggest that it won’t feature any king of wireless support on the standard variants. OnePlus 8 will have water and dust resistant, but nothing can be said about official IP ratings.

OnePlus Z (OnePlus 8 Lite)

The OnePlus 8 Lite is now expected to be launch under a new series that will be called as OnePlus Z. OnePlus will be a mid-range 5G phone, like Mi 10 Lite 5G. It will use the latest Snapdragon 765G or MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset along with the onboard 5G support. The rumors suggest the company will launch three variants of OnePlus Z —  6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB.

The design of OnePlus Z will be different from other devices. It will feature a large 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED Display, with a refresh rate of 90Hz. An improved faster fingerprint scanner, same as the other two variants.

In the camera department, OnePlus Z will get a new vertical setup bumped at the left corner of the back. The device with rock a triple camera array on the back which includes —

  • A 48MP Primary Sensor
  • A 16MP Ultrawide Sensor 
  • A 12MP Telephoto Sensor

The device will house a 4,000 mAh battery with Warp Charge 30 support. As it’ a mid-ranger phone, Warp Charge 30T adapter is not supposed to be included in the box. Any kind of wireless support is also not expected in this mid-ranger. OnePlus Z will also have water and dust resistant, but nothing can be said about official IP ratings.

OnePlus Z will be available in a single color – Shiny Blue


All three phones will run OxygenOS 10 over the latest Android 10.

OnePlus Devices: Price and Availability

Pete Lau, CEO, OnePlus, has already confirmed that the top-end variant of the upcoming series won’t cost over $1000 in United States(roughly Rs. 75,000 in India).

We can expect the OnePlus 8 to cost around $600 (roughly Rs. 45,000) while OnePlus 8 Pro will cost around $850(roughly Rs. 65,000). The brand has not mentioned the OnePlus Z officially, there’s no pricing leaks available for now. As its a Mid-range Smartphone, we can expect it to be cost around $350-$400 (Roughly Rs. 27,000-Rs. 30,000). All phones will be available for sale exclusively on AMAZON.
