Just a week ago, the Indian Government was considered to be banning 52 Chinese Apps that were not following the country’s Privacy Acts seriously. Now, Reportedly 59 Chinese Apps are banned by The Indian Government in the country.

The news officially comes from the press release by PIB. The decision has been taken for apps which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order“.

The list of banned apps includes TikTok and other similar apps, ShareIT, Shein, Parallel Space, Mi Community, Mi Video Call, and UC Browser.

The PIB press said that the move is meant to safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.


Update 1

Following the ban of Chinese Apps in India, TikTok has been removed by ByteDance India (TikTok Parent Company). The company has also posted a statement on Twitter for the clarification with Government. The statement also mentioned that TikTok never shares user data with foreign governments including the Chinese Government.


Update 2

Google and Apple have removed from all 59 apps that were banned by the Indian government from their App Libraries i.e. Play Store and App Store

While Apple hasn’t given a statement so far, a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying:

“While we continue to review the interim orders from the Government of India, we have notified the affected developers and have temporarily blocked access to the apps that remained available on the Play Store in India”.
