Due to the extended quarantine situations to the spread of the COVID-19(Coronavirus), India is in the state of lockdown for almost two months now, and during the lockdown period, public places such as Malls, Shopping Centers, Movie Theatre, Parks, etc has been shut down since the beginning of lockdown. The lockdown has widely affected the Film Industry in India, Movies aren’t releasing in theaters anymore, but now, Amazon’s Prime Video is all set to release the 7 Indian Movie directly on its platform, skipping the theatrical premiers.
The movies the Prime Video will be releasing on its platform includes —
- Gulabo Sitabo
- Shakuntala Devi
- Ponmagal Vandhal
- French Biryani
- Sufiyum Sujatayum
Ronnie Lahiri, Co-Producer of Gulabo Sitabo said, “We’re facing a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon, not seen since World War 2. These are the times when things change. Initially, people have apprehensions but one has to adapt. That’s how human civilizations have prospered. The minute we stop adapting, we’re done. Instead of waiting for the situation to get better, you tackle it with other alternatives.”
With releasing directly on OTT Platforms, it will be interesting to see the reaction of the theatre-chains of India.
